2025's Most Unconventional Superhero Movie is Streaming and Already a Hit
A superhero film released last year is currently topping Hulu's charts, according to FlixPatrol's Top 10 Streaming List. It's an unexpected hit, but critics and audiences are raving about it. This darkly comedic and gory film is set to become a cult classic. The Toxic Avenger, a reboot of the 1984 film, stars Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, and Elijah Wood. The movie's premise is wild: a downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze, undergoes a catastrophic transformation after a toxic accident, becoming a radioactive superhero, Toxie. He must now battle corporate overlords and corrupt forces to save his son, friends, and community.
A Hilarious and Gritty Experience, Just Like the Original
Surprisingly, The Toxic Avenger received high praise with an 87% score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and 82% on Popcornmeter. Critic Graeme Tuckett of The Post NZ says, 'This new Toxic Avenger is a success because Blair and the team took the assignment seriously, aiming for excellence while honoring the original's cult status.' Erik Childress of Movie Madness Podcast gave it 3 out of 4 stars, praising Mason Blair's creative adaptation and the stellar performances of Kevin Bacon and Peter Dinklage. One viewer on Rotten Tomatoes said, 'A janitor rises from the goo to confront corporate neglect. I'm not a Troma fan, but this is their best work. Dinklage's committed performance in a ridiculous premise is key. All characters are exaggerated, with Bacon's delightful corruption and Elijah Wood's enjoyable secondary roles.'
