This comes as a potential solution to the country's retirement savings gap, with the Australian model boasting a $4.1 trillion retirement savings pool. Trump praised the Australian plan, which is designed for working people, as a "good plan" that has "worked out very well." However, the implementation of such a system in the US is not without challenges, as it would need to coexist with the existing 401K pension fund system. This is not the first time Australian superannuation has been in the spotlight in Washington; US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed amazement at its reliable growth in February. The Trump administration's interest in superannuation coincides with a significant donation from tech billionaires Michael and Susan Dell, who pledged $6.25 billion for the "Trump Accounts" program. This program aims to provide $250 for every child aged under 11 who qualifies, with the funds invested in an index fund tracking the stock market. When the children turn 18, they can access the funds for education, home purchase, or business startup. The "Trump Accounts" are accessible to any American child under 18 with a Social Security number, marking a potential shift in the country's approach to retirement savings and child financial empowerment.
