The Seattle Seahawks are once again turning to the United Football League (UFL) to bolster their roster, this time bringing in former Louisville Kings cornerback Deantre Prince. With a history of finding late-round and undrafted gems at the cornerback position, the Seahawks are hoping to add depth to their Super Bowl-winning team. Prince, a 25-year-old who played six games for the Kings, totaled 11 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception. Despite his impressive performance, Prince was let go by the Kings after their first six games, despite being one of their top-rated players on defense.
Prior to his time in the UFL, Prince was a fifth-round pick in 2024 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his 10 games with the Jags, he made eight tackles and defended one pass. Prince was targeted 13 times, allowing five completions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Out of Ole Miss, Prince starred in his senior season, racking up 36 tackles and one interception, and flashed his athletic ability at the combine by running a 4.38-second 40-yard dash time.
The Seahawks aren't the only NFL team expressing interest in Prince, as he worked out with the Cleveland Browns in June. If he does make the Seahawks roster, he would join fellow SEC graduate and fifth-round corner from the 2024 draft, Nehemiah Pritchett. The addition of Prince to the Seahawks' cornerback room could provide much-needed depth and competition, especially with the team's history of finding success with late-round picks.
However, it's worth noting that the UFL is a relatively new league, and the transition from the UFL to the NFL can be challenging. Prince's performance in the UFL and his potential to make the Seahawks roster will be a key factor in determining his success. The Seahawks' decision to bring in Prince is a strategic move, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to live up to the expectations and contribute to the team's success.
In my opinion, the Seahawks' interest in Prince is a smart move, given their history of finding success with late-round picks. However, the UFL's relatively short history and the challenges of transitioning from the UFL to the NFL make it difficult to predict Prince's long-term success. Nevertheless, the addition of Prince to the Seahawks' cornerback room could provide much-needed depth and competition, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the NFL.
