In an exciting development for the arts scene, renowned author Manon Steffan Ros is set to host a new arts program on BBC Radio Cymru. Widely recognized as one of the leading literary figures in Wales, Ros has garnered a multitude of accolades for her contributions as a novelist and playwright. Beyond her writing, she has also made a name for herself as a columnist, presenter, and singer, showcasing her diverse talents within the creative community.
"It’s a tremendous honor to take on the role of presenting an arts program on BBC Radio Cymru," shared Manon Steffan Ros, expressing her enthusiasm for this new endeavor.
"With over two decades of experience in various artistic roles—ranging from acting and singing to visual art and, of course, writing—I am eagerly looking forward to not only continuing my creative journey but also to presenting a radio show that focuses on the topics I am deeply passionate about."
Ros elaborated on her long-standing relationship with radio, noting, "Radio has played a significant role in my life; it has been a reliable companion throughout the years. I enjoy listening to both live broadcasts and podcasts, and I constantly find myself learning through this medium. Additionally, living in a community with a relatively small number of Welsh speakers, I recognize just how crucial BBC Radio Cymru has been in connecting me with my cultural roots. This sentiment resonates with many individuals across Wales and beyond. Being part of the BBC Radio Cymru family is truly a special honor for me; I’ve felt like a member of this community as a listener for as long as I can remember."
Manon will take over from Ffion Dafis, who will transition to her new role as Artistic Director of Theatr Bara Caws in January.
Dafydd Meredydd, Editor of BBC Radio Cymru, remarked on this transition, stating, "Manon’s appointment marks an exhilarating new chapter for the station. I am thrilled to welcome her to the presenter’s chair, as she is a highly regarded author and musician. Manon Steffan Ros is slated to step into the studio in Bangor for her inaugural program on Sunday, January 25.
