The study included 90 adults, randomly assigned to take either FoTv or a placebo. The strongest results were observed in participants who had never had COVID-19 before. Those who took FoTv experienced significantly fewer side effects, and remarkably, their antibody levels continued to rise over six months.

Dr. Saxe commented, "Antibody levels usually peak a month after vaccination and then decline. In this group, we saw a decrease in side effects, and antibody levels kept increasing up to the six-month mark."

This natural supplement's ability to reduce side effects and improve antibody durability could potentially address vaccine hesitancy and reduce the need for frequent booster shots.

And this is the part most people miss: fungal mycelium can be produced using standardized, scalable methods, making it a viable option for future infectious disease outbreaks, including influenza A strains like H5N1.

"With emerging threats like H5N1 avian influenza, we need affordable, scalable tools to strengthen vaccines without increasing side effects," Dr. Saxe said. "FoTv, a carefully tested natural immune modulator, might be that tool. Humans and fungi share an evolutionary ancestry, and human immune cells have receptors that respond to compounds in fungi. We're only beginning to understand the potential of fungi like FoTv."

Dr. Saxe emphasized the need for further studies to confirm these findings and understand the supplement's mechanism of action.
