Unveiling the Future of Long Eaton: 80 Homes Rise from a Historic Mill
The once-bustling early 20th-century mill in Long Eaton is set to be transformed into a vibrant residential community. Developer ALB Group has submitted plans to Erewash Borough Council, envisioning a revival of Bridge Mills on Derby Road. This ambitious project aims to breathe new life into the 110ft (33.5m) brick chimney landmark, converting it into 80 one and two-bedroom apartments.
The building, constructed in 1902 by F Perks & Son for Long Eaton Bridge Mills Co. Ltd, holds historical significance as it is believed to be the last multi-story tenement factory built in England. ALB's Managing Director, Arran Bailey, emphasizes the project's dual purpose: preserving the area's rich lace-making and manufacturing history while addressing the local community's housing needs.
If approved, construction is set to commence promptly, with the first apartments potentially ready for occupancy within 18 months. This development promises to revitalize Long Eaton, blending its industrial past with a modern, sustainable future.
